Vettyvel Law generously contributes towards helping most vulnerable families in Batticaloa District via NEED Centre’s COVID-19 Food Relief Effort.

Vettyvel Law, a premiere law firm in Toronto, providing legal services has made a generous donation of $1,500 CAD towards the most vulnerable in Batticaloa District.  This donation went towards NEED Centre’s Food Relief program providing essential food to 154 affected families in the Batticaloa district located in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka.

The nationwide lockdown enforced by the Sri Lankan government during the current COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult for daily wage earners to sustain their livelihood in the current pandemic shutdown.  The daily wage earner families receiving the food relief packages have been severely struggling for their basic food needs with some on the brink of starvation.

Provisions provided by NEED Centre will go towards basic food essentials for one family for an entire week.  Each food package contained the following items: 5 kg of rice, 3 kg of wheat flour, 1 kg of sugar, 2 packs of soya meat and two bars of soap.

On April 23-24, 2020 Vettyvel Law’s donation went towards a total of 154 families from Thuraineelavanai (67), Kannakikiramam (50) and Kirankulam (37) of Manmunai South & Eravur Pattu DS Division of Batticaloa District.  NEED Centre facilitated the delivery of food relief packages to these families most affected.
