Summary of North and East Economic Development (NEED) Centre’s COVID-19 Food Relief Efforts for the month of April 2020.

The nationwide lockdown enforced by the Sri Lankan government during the current COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult for daily wage earners to sustain their livelihood in the current pandemic shutdown.  In the war affected North and East, the daily wage earner families have been severely struggling for their basic food needs with some on the brink of starvation.

NEED Centre, quickly got into action by distributing COVID-19 Emergency Food Relief to the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka with the support of diaspora organization, businesses and individuals.

Approximately 3000 families were provided food relief in the month of April 2020 by the NEED centre. Each family received basic food essentials for an entire week.  Each food package contained the following items: 5 kg of rice, wheat flour, sugar, lentils, soya meat, tea and bars of soap.
